Viking Jupiter Maiden Call on 8 February 2019
08.02.2019 Viking Jupiter Maiden Call on 8 February 2019

With today's inaugural call of the newborn Viking Jupiter, the 2019 cruise season of Ravenna Cruise Port is also starting.

The Viking Jupiter is a medium-sized cruise ship, has a gross tonnage of approximately 47,800 tons and in its 465 cabins can accommodate up to 930 passengers. Jewel of Viking Cruises, the Jupiter was built by Ancona's Fincantieri according to the most recent regulations on navigation safety and environmental protection, it is equipped with the most modern and sophisticated on-board systems and is structured to guarantee maximum efficiency with low consumption, thus ensuring the reduction to the minimum of the pollution produced by the exhaust gases.

The ship also features elegant Scandinavian-inspired interiors, designed by the Smc Design team from London and the Rottet studio in Los Angeles, as well as a wellness area with sauna and snow cave.

The Viking Jupiter ship arrived this morning at 6:30 am in Porto Corsini, greeted by the delicate golden colors of the Ravenna dawn. For the occasion, the Ship Master has invited on board the representatives of the local Authorities, the port community and Ravenna Cruise Port for the traditional crest exchange ceremony.

About 500 guests will participate in the inaugural cruise, coming from 38 different countries all over the world, with a prevalence of Americans, Norwegians and English, but also with a conspicuous representation of Chinese.

Boarding operations took place at the Porto Corsini terminal, elegantly set up for the occasion according to the unmistakable and sober Viking style, while the departure of the ship to Split, in Croatia, is scheduled for midnight.

The organization of this important inaugural call highlights the constant commitment of Ravenna Cruise Port for the development of cruise traffic in the port of the Emilia-Romagna region, despite the serious operational difficulties caused by the limited depth and the diameter of the circle of evolution.

Ravenna Cruise Port is part of the great network of Global Ports Holding (GPH), the most important independent cruise terminal operator in the world, which boasts a consolidated presence in the Mediterranean, in the Atlantic and in the Asia-Pacific regions, including some important commercial ports in Turkey and Montenegro.

With the recent addition of the cruise terminals of La Habana (Cuba), Zadar (Croatia) and Antigua (Antigua and Barbuda), GPH manages a portfolio of 18 ports in 10 countries, where more than 3,500 calls of ships from all CLs are held each year.
